WE ARE A COLLECTIVE OF CREATIVE TALENT FORGING NEW SPACES

We are Crucible

In this melting pot, we dare not shy away from heated conversations. We invite them, knowing and trusting in the process of alchemy in this sacred vessel, where an array of life experiences and a spectrum of identities can be celebrated and held. Born out of conflict, Crucible serves to heal, highlighting the voices of many unheard and swiftly growing toward a new way of representing the life and work of women/womxn/non-binary Black, Brown, Indigenous, Global South People, and Global South LGBTQQIP2SA+.

Crucible was conceived amid the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic during an Instagram Live chat between Roxanne Simone and Finchittida Finch on 'Blackness, Embodiment & Rising in Greatness'

Kalkidan Hoex

Founder & Crucible Creative Producer

Adopted from Ethiopia and brought up in the Netherlands, I’ve always felt like I was living between two different worlds. I took it on myself to educate and explore the intricacies of my own identity and relate to others through my jewellery.

I speaks directly to those I consider a part of my own identity. It is a certain group of people I came into contact with – youth of mixed descent, who fled with their families from their country of origin, or who were adopted. I focus on this group, because despite the difference in backgrounds and upbringing, we share and agree on many topics when it comes to identity. This concept gave me an interest in the Representation of black people in imagery in-particular.

The power to practice Representation in all my art-forms and to contribute educationally and symbolically has become a growing factor in my jewellery brand; TheNEWtribe.

I realize that I’d personally rather be effective than create a career that only is based on success.
